First Patent
Henry Mill (c. 1683–1771), and English inventor, files the first patent for a “writing machine” in England.
His patent was the first to conceptualize a writing machine.

William Burt’s Typographer
William A. Burt (June 13, 1792 – Aug 18, 1858) patents the Typographer in the U.S. Maybe not the first to create such a device, but the first registered patent for the device. A mix of dials and keys which was slower to use than writing by hand.

First prototype of typewriter
Christopher Latham Sholes (Feb 14, 1819 – Feb 17, 1890) prototyped the first modern typewriter. It would strike paper from below.

Electric Typewriter
Thomas Edison was the first person to make the keys straight and easier to use. He also created the first electric model of typewriter which would improve the usability even more.

Sholes and Glidden Typewriter - Remington No 1
The Charles Sholes and Carlos S. Glidden typewriter rights acquired by Remington and Sons in 1873. Remington refined the typewriter put it on the market on July 1, 1874. This was the first commercially successful typewriter.

First Shift Key Typewriter
The Remington Model 2 first to market in 1878. Soon after appeared the so-called double-keyboard machines.

Pellegrino Turri, creates first typewriter for blind friend Countess Carolina Fantoni da Fivizzano.
Pellegrino Turri, an Italian inventor, invented a mechanical typing machine, one of the first typewriters at the start of the 19th century (conflicting accounts suggest 1801, 1806 or 1808) for his blind friend Countess Carolina Fantoni da Fivizzano. He also invented carbon paper to provide the ink for his machine.
